Continuing education

Continuing education (CE) credits are crucial to the career adjuster. Whether you are working for an insurance carrier or Third-Party Administrator (TPA) directly as a staff adjuster – or accepting claims adjusting work through contract as an independent adjuster. This is because CE credits are part of the credentialing process when renewing your state license(s).

Your home state’s Department of Insurance will dictate how many CE credits are required and the frequency of the credentialing. For example, the Texas Department of Insurance (DOI) currently requires renewal of the adjusting license every 2 years. To keep your license in good standing, you must obtain 24 CE credits within that 2 year span.

To keep track of your credentialing requirements, create an account on the Sircon website to find courses and training providers and to view your training transcript.

If you miss the window for completing CE credits prior to the due date of your renewal, you may still qualify to complete the process at the expense of a fine. It is far easier to keep track of your requirements by creating the account and completing your obligation early than by waiting until the end of the renewal period. If you have been deployed to a long-term work assignment or to a catastrophe event, you could miss your deadline and have to pay fines before you can complete renewal. This is not only an unnecessary extra expense but it could jeopardize the work you are currently contracted to perform.

For the state of Texas, you may not need to complete CE credits if you have been successfully licensed for a certain period of time. Additionally, you may apply for an extension to renew your license which will be at the state’s discretion to approve. Adjusters can apply for either the exemption or the extension to renew on the Sircon site as well.
